#CommsChat – Flying the Flag for Specialism in PR

The BLUE team was excited to participate in #CommsChat, a live weekly Twitter discussion with PR industry leaders and experts across the communications sectors.

During an allocated hour, BLUE’s MD Alisdair Pettigrew discussed specialism in PR via Twitter and explored how having an in-depth and knowledgeable focus on a vertical can give consultancies the edge.

It was fascinating to engage with others on issues that affect all sectors and demonstrate how specialist agencies like ours are showing impressive growth across the board. Our inclusion again in this year’s PR Week top 150, moving up nine places to 132, plus our recent success in the CIPR Excellence awards is testament to this. We are not only acting as consultants to our clients but also becoming a respected voice in our right within the marine and energy sectors.

Alisdair was also keen to point out that as a consultancy which is so dedicated to and embedded within marine and energy, it’s important not to be detached or siloed from PR and communications trends. To ensure we’re constantly aligned with PR best practice we focus heavily on pushing ourselves to match the best in strategic PR and communications, and our PRCA membership is one illustration of this philosophy. We’re committed to driving PR professionalism in marine and energy, which are relatively embryonic PR markets compared to the healthcare, finance, and tech veterans.

It was rewarding to see our colleagues and, in some cases, old friends, across the industry, specialist and non-specialist, engaging in an in-depth and interesting conversation around how specialism makes a PR agency stand out. It was great to hear how other specialists are finding success in the same way as BLUE – marrying specialist knowledge with genuine communications consultancy to build reputations from the brand up.
