For the third consecutive year, BLUE and Norton Rose Fulbright will host a ‘Perspectives On…’ panel discussion – to be held in London on 21st October 2015. This year’s theme, ‘The Implications of the EU’s MRV Regulation’, will explore the compliance approaches and considerations surrounding the EU’s monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) requirement that will be implemented from 2018.
The regulation will require that all vessels over 5,000 gross tonnes must report on fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and transport work for voyages entering EU ports. Measurement of emissions will therefore become mandatory for the approximate 10,000 vessels a year entering EU waters. And, by August 2017, companies will have to submit their monitoring plan, indicating the methodology and means chosen to monitor and report emissions and other relevant information for each of their ships.
Sponsored by Verifavia, the Q&A discussion with leaders from across the industry will explore all aspects and ramifications of compliance. This includes evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the four key monitoring methodologies, discussing the ongoing EU consultation to finalise MRV details, exploring verification processes, policing and enforcement.
